We've conducted extensive privacy focus group tests—with people like you. We've listened to what these users wanted. We've also consulted with the top privacy industry experts to build controls directly into the SeenThis? application to meet your needs and follow industry best practices.
Our philosophy is to limit the data we collect, to safeguard what we do collect, and to give you full control over where we collect it.
Here's information on how privacy works when you use the SeenThis? application. We hope it will make you feel good about using SeenThis? to help create social recommendations for your communities.
This Privacy Policy explains the collection, use, and disclosure of Personal Information within the SeenThis? application for social networks ("SeenThis?") and website (located at http://seenthis.loomia.com - the "Website").
SeenThis? is an application and set of widgets that can be added to social networking websites and platforms ("Social Networks") and then be accessed within such Social Networks and third-party websites ("Media Partner Sites") that make use of Loomia's recommendation and personalization web service ("Recommendations Service").
Loomia is a licensee of the TRUSTe Privacy Program. TRUSTe is an independent, non-profit organization whose mission is to build user's trust and confidence in the Internet by promoting the use of fair information practices. This privacy statement covers the use of the SeenThis? application and the SeenThis? Website. Because this Website wants to demonstrate its commitment to your privacy, it has agreed to disclose its information practices and have its privacy practices reviewed for compliance by TRUSTe.
If you have questions or concerns regarding this statement, you should first contact us at privacy [at] loomia.com. If you do not receive acknowledgement of your inquiry or your inquiry has not been satisfactorily addressed, you should contact TRUSTe at http://www.truste.org/consumers/watchdog_complaint.php TRUSTe will then serve as a liaison with us to resolve your concerns.
Loomia complies with the EU Safe Harbor framework as set forth by the Department of Commerce regarding the collection, use, and retention of data from the European Union.
"Personal Information" means individually identifiable information that would allow a party to identify you or to contact you (online or in the real world). This type of information includes, for example, your name, address, telephone number, or email address.
Loomia does not collect, store, or make use of any Personal Information of SeenThis? users. While Social Networks and Media Partner Sites may collect Personal Information, Loomia does not collect, store, or use such information.
Any such Personal Information collected by Social Networks are subject to the individual privacy policies of Social Networks. When you add SeenThis? to your Social Network Site, Loomia may use your Social Network identifier to access your social graphs and other Social Network properties ("Social Network Data"). Loomia does not access, use, or store any Personal Information that may be contained in your Social Network Data.
Any such Personal Information collected by Media Partner Sites are subject to the individual privacy policies of the Media Partner Sites. Media Partner Sites that use site authorization may use usernames as a key for the Recommendations Service for its users. Loomia has no control over the data contained within usernames and uses this information only as a database identifier.
SeenThis? gathers non-personal information about your interactions with media content within the SeenThis? application in Social Networks and within our Media Partners Sites. Such information may include, without limitation, views of news articles, blog entries, video clips, and other content. This information is only collected when you are logged into Social Networks. You can turn off information gathering for the SeenThis? application on any of our Media Partner Sites - i.e. you have the power to choose which websites are used to create recommendations and you may opt-out of any of the websites. We do not sell collected information to third parties except in aggregated forms.
Loomia uses the aggregated information we collect to provide customized media recommendations for your social networks. For example, SeenThis? will display social annotations next to recommended articles, such as, "5 friends read this and it's popular in 4 of your groups". The information we collect about you is only shared with other users in aggregate form, which means individual actions are never shared with anyone (except as otherwise set forth below). In other words, information that is recorded about users and collected into groups so that it no longer reflects or references an individually identifiable user. You can choose not to have your interactions included in the aggregated information that is shared with your friends, groups, or networks - or within SeenThis? in general (see the application "Settings" tab to customize your controls).
Loomia adheres to the applicable Terms of Service and Privacy Policies for the Social Networks it provides the SeenThis? application to, including but not limited to, the policies regarding access, use, storage, and display of such Social Network Data.
Users may choose to share or post recommended links for display within the SeenThis? application. Whereas such links may be transmitted via or associated with Personal Information, Loomia does not access such Personal Information and shares and posts links using Social Network identifiers and as proscribed by Social Network distribution policies. For SeenThis?, Loomia may display social annotations in conjunction with recommended links. Such social annotations may contain groups and networks you belong to but will be safely anonymized and not trackable to individual users.
SeenThis? may permit you to link to other websites on the Internet. These other websites are not under Loomia's control. The privacy and security practices of websites linked to from the SeenThis? application are not covered by this Privacy Policy, and Loomia is not responsible for the privacy or security practices or the content of such websites.
We assign cookies to users of SeenThis? and Media Partner Sites in order to make it possible to obtain social recommendations without having to register with a Media Partner site and for the general operation of the Recommendations Service. This data is used in conjunction with providing SeenThis? functionality and other functions of the Recommendations Service and is not shared with any third party by Loomia. Disabling cookies may prevent Loomia from providing you with relevant recommendations and may otherwise cause certain functions or services not to function properly.
If you choose to opt-out of SeenThis? or to one or more Media Partners, Loomia will a set a cookie with an id set to opt-out. By receiving this cookie, our application will know that you have opted out and will not to attempt to process any data. User settings are also stored within our system and are used as a fail-safe method to make sure we are respecting your privacy settings.
We use Social Network IDs provided and maintained by Social Networks to associate your views with media content within Media Partner Sites in order to provide you and your network with social recommendations. These Social Network IDs are not used to access, use, or store any Personal Information.
We may record IP information of Media Partner Sites. Such information may be used for monitoring, auditing, and reporting use of the Recommendations Service.
We may disclose aggregated information about the use of the SeenThis? application and the Recommendations Service to business partners, investors, and others. Additionally, we may produce industry-standard traffic reports for assessing use of SeenThis? and the Recommendations Service. We will use information only in the aggregate in order to monitor and improve the SeenThis? application and the Recommendations Service.
The Website does not collect, store, or display any Personal Information, except as noted in the section immediately below.
Loomia may post user testimonials regarding the SeenThis? application on the Website. Before Loomia posts a user's testimonial to the Website, we will secure the consent of such user. If you consent to Loomia's posting of your testimonial you acknowledge that Loomia shall have the right to post your name and business name and title, if applicable, in association with such posting.
Loomia has implemented and follows industry standard measures to protect against unauthorized access to and unlawful interception or processing of any Personal Information it may come in contact with, if any. However, no Internet site can fully eliminate security risks.
Children under 13 are not permitted to use The Application and so this privacy policy makes no provision for children's use of the SeenThis? application. Loomia does not store any Personal Information for any SeenThis? users and any Personal Information collected by Social Networks and Media Partner Sites is the sole responsibility of Social Networks and Media Partner Sites.
If you decide to visit the Website or use SeenThis?, any possible dispute over privacy with respect to such visitation (or use) is subject to this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Use, including limitations on damages, arbitration of disputes, and application of California state law.
We may amend this policy at any time. Use of information we collect now is subject to the Privacy Policy in effect at the time such information is used. Notices of amendments will be posted prominently within the SeenThis? application and on the Website.
